As many of you have noticed, a goodly number of the stories/chapters on this board have lost their accents and quotations. This is thanks to the import over to
yuku from ezboard that I was required to do earlier this month (or at least I thought I was required to do).
There was no warning from the ezboard/yuku folks that this would happen. After nearly 2 years testing out yuku, I cannot BELIEVE that they didn't encounter this problem. Or that when it was first reported mid January, they didn't immediately HALT their plans to port everyone over, because frankly this is very very bad business, in my mind. Our board is certainly not unique- there are countless number of ezboards that have fiction on it.
The problem lies in the fact that many of us write in MS Word...and MS Word has 'smart quotes'. Apparently when they ported the cassadine fanfiction forum over to yuku, these quotes were lost forever. The quotation marks in non-MS word documents were not lost.
I have been in talks with the yuku folks for the last week, trying to determine if we can go back to ezboard and have the quotes restored. One admin led me to believe this was an option, the only consequence to this would be that any posts made in the last month would be lost. Given that only one chapter has been posted lately, it would be easy to go about doing this, and reposting that chapter would take very little time (I've already saved it). A few replies would be lost, but that is small potatoes when you are balancing that with 100s upwards to a 1000+ posts. When I approached the staff about doing this, I was told, no this wasn't really an option, that ezboards is going away forever and those same quote marks would be lost when sent back the way of yuku.
*sigh*
What do people think? I don't have the time or energy to fix upwards to a 1000 posts. I could push them to bring us back to ezboard with the idea that perhaps these can be saved or fixed in some manner before going back to yuku- but frankly, I don't know if that is realistic.
Am I being over-reactive to see this as the death knell to this board?
any thoughts, assistance or creative swear words would be appreciated.
