CHAPTER THREE
HARBORVIEW TOWERS
Spinelli came into the penthouse all smiles. Melanie was too engrossed in her computer screen to greet him, even when he tried to get cute with her. "I see the Royal One isn't pleased to see me," he finally said.
Melanie finally looked up at him. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's just...well this is really puzzling me. Sorry I didn't notice you."
Spinelli shrugged. "It's okay. The Jackal is here to help. What confuses you, my princess?"
She pointed to the computer screen. "This is a bank account. Now, I should have access to all family accounts, but this one is denying me. I've tried every trick I know." She got up from the table and Spinelli sat down.
After five minutes, he let out a yelp. "Another file has fallen to the Jackal. I am still the master of the internet." He turned and smiled at her. She hugged him and sat back down in front of the computer. As she perused the database, Spinelli hung over her shoulder. "So what is in this top secret file that I have cracked?"
Melanie was shocked at the information she had uncovered. "It's a bank account that belonged to my Uncle Stefan." She was very confused by what she was reading. "This isn't possible."
"What's not?" he asked.
She looked up at him. "The funds in this account have been accessed, as recently as last month."
Now Spinelli was confused. "So, someone broke into it like we just did."
Melanie shook her head. "No, the only one who could get to that money was my uncle. But, see, he died four years ago." She turned back to the screen. "Was I right? Did I really see him months ago?"
GENERAL HOSPITAL
Mickey Villianov stepped off the elevator onto the seventh floor of the hospital. He looked around until he found his college buddy, Dr. Patrick Drake.
"Did you get everything taken care of?" Mickey asked.
Patrick looked up at him and smiled. "Everything is ready. But just answer me this one question." When Mickey nodded, Patrick continued. "Why Kelly's? There are a lot of places in town that are far more romantic than the diner."
Mickey smiled at his friend. "When she and her sister first came to town, that was the first place they went. The first person they met was Ruby Anderson, who was none too pleased to have her in the diner, being she was a Cassadine and all. I just want to bring her back to where it all began."
Patrick nodded as Mickey continued. "Besides, we still have to have the Bacchanalia Ball. We have plenty of opportunities for romance and formality."
It was then that Dr. Robin Scorpio piped up. "Did you say a Bacchanalia Ball? You're proposing to Angela?" she asked.
Mickey nodded but Robin shook her head. "I've known Angela for a lot of years. She has said numerous times she would never want a Bacchanalia Ball."
"Why not?" Patrick asked.
Robin stood next to him and let out a sigh. "The last Bacchanalia the Cassadines had ended with the bride falling off the parapet. She's a little jumpy that could happen to her."
Mickey let out a sigh and then explained all to Patrick. "My cousin Stefan was to marry this woman, Katherine Bell, and that did happen to her." Turning to Robin, he explained further. "There were extenuating circumstances however." With nothing further, Mickey left.
Patrick was puzzled. "What really happened?" he asked Robin, figuring she knew the story.
Robin just smiled at him. "Come with me and I'll explain the story about the curse of the Bacchanalia Ball."
METROCOURT HOTEL
Darius Carleson sat in his suite browsing through computer files. When he came upon the bank statements he smiled. "I see, young one, you have found my trail." With a few keystrokes he altered the file even further, inserting a worm program in it. "Now let us see if you can continue on this path."
HARBORVIEW TOWERS
As Mel and Spinelli continued to stare at the screen the computer beeped, startling them. As Melanie typed some more, the screen became jumbled. Mel relinquished her seat to Spinelli who worked to block whatever program was incoming.
"Dude, whoever is at the end of this line has some righteous skills. They've cracked the encryption program and...oh no, this is not good." He looked very sorry. "They have cracked your cyberwalls." With that, a new window popped up.
Melanie sat back down and looked at the screen. The message that appeared was in a foreign script. She didn't know what it said, but she knew who might be able to help her. She closed the computer, put it in her bag and grabbed Spinelli's arm. When he asked where they were going she told him, "We have to go to church."
