OK, I've decided to try my hand at fluff here, so y'all are so good at the angst. Angst. mmm.
7:44
Kristina, Molly, Nikolas, Emily, and Alexis waited for Mrs. Landsbury to bring out the next helping as Kristina was chatting about what fun she had had ice-skating the other day.
"Yes, yes, sliding around on frozen water on rickety pieces of metal shoes isn't exactly my idea of fun, but what can I do?" Alexis said helplessly.
Nikolas smiled. "You do realize - "
"Don't even think it," she interrupted him. "Molly sweetheart, don't pick at your food before everything is on the table."
"Sorry," the little girl replied absentmindedly. "Mommy, when is daddy coming?"
Kristina's eyes widened slightly in alarm. "He's coming?"
"Well, it is Christmas sweetie," Alexis reasoned.
"All the more reason for him to stay away!"
"Kristina," Nikolas said soothingly.
"Come on Nikolas! You know you don't want him here either!"
"I know Ric can act a little, um," Emily stuttered as she searched for the word she wanted to use.
"Crazy dr-"
"Not in front of your sister Kristina," Alexis scolded. "Ric doesn't mean any harm. It's just the way he is. We're Cassadines. A little eccentricity is nothing."
"Yeah, what he did at Thanksgiving wasn't so bad . . . " Emily began . . .
flashback
Alexis was in the middle of trying to have a nice, normal Thanksgiving holiday with her family when Ric barged in.
"Oh hello Ric," Alexis greeted, a little disconcerted but trying to hide it. "We were hoping you would join - "
"At least someone's hoping I'll join them," Ric slurred. He started ineffectually picking at a gingerbread house. "But no, you try to make your own dish of noodles to compliment - *compliment* - not steal! and your own brother accuses you of, of, betrayal." Ric kept picking at the house, unsuccessful in breaking off a piece. Kristina sighed at broke it off for him. "Here you are Uncle Ric," she said, handing the piece to him. "Thank you Kristina," he said. As he ate it, Kristina shook her head softly and stared at her mother in mute annoyance. Nikolas and Emily were shaking with laughter . . .
End flashback
" . . . as what he did at the Fourth of July picnic," finished Emily.
flashback
The whole family stared up at the sky as fireworks shot across the sky.
"You know, I'm not much for loud noises, but they are rather nice," Alexis admitted.
"This is MY blanket!" a voice rang across the field.
Everyone turned at looked at where the voice was coming from. It belonged to Ric, who was holding a bottle of beer and standing on his own little square blanket. "That's right everybody," he announced. "This the, the blanket of betrayal! On which I am alone! Because betrayers are alone and thus are alone in the blanket of life! Without the brother blanket, because the betrayal blanket has betrayed the brother!"
Jason stared stonily.
Dillon turned off his camera. There were just some things that shouldn't be put on film, he thought.
Liz scratched her nose. Lucky stared off in another direction.
"You've got to admire his alliteration at a time like this," Nikolas said.
Kristina sighed in disgust and Alexis merely replied, "Nikolas, you truly are an optimist aren't you?"
end flashback
"I thought it was kind of humorous," Nikolas said. "Besides, I know what it's like to desperately be part of a family that didn't want you."
"Please, Nikolas, don't make excuses for him," Kristina said. "What about my birthday party?"
flashback
"And this is from your Uncle Ric," said Ric, handing over a gift to Kristina.
Kristina smiled warmly at him and opened it up. "Oh look," she said. "You got me the same thing as daddy did." Time to sell them both on e-bay for a higher price, buy the cheapest one I can find, and tell them both I sold the other once, she added silently.
"No, don't be silly Kristina." Ric snatched it from her hands so quickly her hands were still up holding air instead of the camera. "I understand," he said. "there isn't enough room in the house for the two cameras. They can never be together. One of the cameras can't stand the comptetition. Knowing there's another camera out there who wants to be just like him. But he can't stand it. Takes the other camera trying to be like him as an insult. Besides," Ric shooke his head sadly, "even though they may look alike, one of the cameras will always be there. Slightly inferior. You might not see it right away on the outside, but inside the camera is broken. Damaged. Damaged," he repeated, sighing as he repacked the camera.
Jason just stared.
Sonny, oblivious to the subtle meaning of Ric's rant, shurgged. "Well, you know, if that's, that's what you want Ric. You're probably right anyway. These bastards cheat ya. Kristina, honey, you'd, you'd better check that, that," he pointed shakily at it, "that damn camera to see if it's working right."
"No!" Ric cried suddenly. "The camera will NEVER work right!" He clutched it to his chest and hurried out the door.
"He's right," Sonny said, "he's right. These things always break down in a year. They wanna make you buy another."
"I guess you do know about these things daddy," smirked Kristina.
"I sure do baby," he said. "Leticia, would you cut up the cake for us?"
End flashback
"Ah yes," murmured Alexis as she reminisced. "Well still. These aren't the actions of a bad man. Just . . . a little . . . overenthusiastic."
Mrs. Landsbury poked her head in. "Madam Cassadine, Master Nikolas? Mr. Lansing is here for dinner."
"That's fine," Nikolas replied. "Right Alexis?" he double-checked. She nodded. Kristina scowled. "It's absolutely fine with Kristina as well," said Alexis. "Cause she knows how much it means to Molly.
"Yes I do know," Kristina muttered. "Which is why he should stay away."
Mrs. Landsbury gestured for him to come in. "Thanks Mrs. Landsbury," said Ric, patting her on the arm. "You were always a nice lady. "I know you would never have an two children, the eldest of which would puch you down the stairs when you were pregnant with your second."
"Well . . . " Mrs. Landsbury said uncertainly.
"Merry Christmas baby." Ric came over and hugged Molly and sat down beside her. "Kristina honey, hi. Hey, Nikolas, Emily."
"Hi Ric," the latter two replied back.
"You didn't want to go to daddy's this year honey?" Ric asked Kristina.
"Oh, I'll go over tomorrow. Tonight at mass Michael and Morgon are participating in the Christmas play. Michael is a uh, wise man. Morgan is a shepherd," Kristina replied.
"That's nice," Ric nodded. "You ever do any of that when you were a kid Nikolas?"
Nikolas caught Alexiss eye. "No, I couldn't say I did Ric."
"No me either," Ric said. "I was always regulated to the innkeeper. The man who has to turn away from others. I guess I could never be a wise man. The wise man, you know, they were wise. Always stuck together. Too wise to you know, be - "
"Chicken, Uncle Ric?" asked Kristina.
"Yes, thank you hon. And then, I never got shepherd either. They had to know how to make the sheep stick together. I could never get the sheep to stick together! All I wanted was the sheep to be together, in the herd! But no . . . " he continued.
Kristina rolled her eyes but Molly smiled happily.
The end
8:48 but I didn't go over ahaha! cause I wasn interrupted from 8:30-8:36. Hope you enjoyed that.
I admit, I stole my Kristina's personality from slacker's brilliant Kristina escapades posts at SZ, and if you think of the time when Laura and Katherine both gave Nik a camera on his b-day when reading this, that's what I thought of too.
If you're confused as to what ages are or what Alexis and Ric's relationship is, well the ages are left in the air and Ric and Alexis aren't together but I guess you could make it otherwise if you wished to do so. That's stuff's up for grabs.
